She started Base thirteen years ago and ran it as CEO through venture funding, an acquisition, and a move of her own family from the United States to Spain. Base builds the executive support systems that keep leaders and companies running, which gave Paige a close view of how capable people operate and where they break down. The pattern she kept seeing became the book. The most reliable person on a team slowly becomes the one everything depends on, until their competence turns into a liability for the organization and a real cost to them.

Built to Breathe names that trap and offers a way through it without lowering the bar. Its Inhale, Hold, Exhale framework is about deciding what to own, what to hold for a while, and what to release, so a company benefits from a leader's judgment without depending on the leader's constant presence. As AI raises what gets expected of everyone, Paige argues that human endurance is not a growth strategy, and that rest and support are leadership decisions rather than rewards for surviving.
